Wickbound
A short 3D puzzle game where your candle acts as your vision, your resource, and your countdown.
Made for GMTK Game Jam 2026.
You awaken inside an ancient structure untouched by daylight, holding a candle marked with ten cuts of wax.
Every stretch of movement burns away another part of the candle. A strong flame expands your vision and reveals mechanisms, paths, and creatures beyond special thin walls—but its light also exposes you.
As the flame weakens, darkness closes around you. Creatures drawn to bright light lose sight of you, while something else begins to stir inside the shadows...

I love the idea of having risks for keeping your candle fully lit while also having to manage being able to see. I would have liked for it to have come through a little more clearly in the game though: I never felt like there was any reason not to keep the candle at full, and even at full it didn't make it really any easier to see what's going on.
Thanks for the feedback! Intuitively players want high candle light for safety and vision. However, we specifically designed two types of enemies: High Flame attracts Eye monsters but suppresses Ghost monsters, while Low Flame lets you sneak past or follow Eye monsters, but awakens the Ghost ones. In this current build, the enemy and audio tuning isn’t quite there yet, which might make the enemy mechanics unclear. BTW actually, our original design also included core features like special echo walls that reveal info, light-locked doors, and empty candelabras for storing wax segments, etc., but due to time limits, we can only add them in the upcoming update. Issues with visibility and overall immersion will be optimized in the next small update as well! Thanks again for playing!
